KIMARA’S BIOGRAPHY
Even as a very young girl I had a love for makeup; I remember waiting for my mother to leave the house so I could play with all of the cosmetics on her vanity table. I would sit there for hours in front her lighted makeup mirror. As I got older I became captivated by the covers of fashion magazines and saved every issue of Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Harper’s Bazaar. I was so enamored in the role that makeup played in creating each of the model’s different looks. My curiosity and love of makeup only increased as I continued experimenting with it throughout high school and college.
In College I was always the go-to-girl for makeup. I owe much of my innate artistic talent to my mother, who is a renowned doll artist. Growing up I watched my mother sculpt and paint doll faces, not realizing one day I would paint real faces.
I grew up in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania where my great grandparents owned and operated a small Bed and Breakfast. Over the next generation that business grew into a much larger property, Fernwood Resort. (And yes, you would be correct in thinking of the movie setting of Dirty Dancing.) I grew up living and working on the property of our family business, so it was natural that the entrepreneurial spirit and service business was in my blood.
I attended Goucher College in Baltimore, MD and earned a BA in Business Management. During my senior year in college I met a makeup artist who piqued my interest in a career in makeup. After graduation, I thought I would pursue the corporate side of beauty in New York City. However, my mind quickly changed after I decided to take a summer course in makeup artistry. I soon realized my love of doing makeup never went away and instead of pursuing a more corporate position I decided to pursue being a part of the makeup artist and beauty world.
I was fortunate to meet a makeup artist, in New York City, who needed an assistant at the time. The experience was an immediate education into the world of makeup and for that I am forever grateful. It made me realize that I wanted to create a makeup studio where the ambiance greatly differs from the department store cosmetic counter. I also wanted to create a quality product line developed and edited by a professional in the Industry.
In 1997 that dream came true with the opening of my makeup and skincare studio on Madison Avenue in New York City. Today my team of makeup artists and aestheticians are among the top team of experts in the Industry, offering women the opportunity to learn and look their best in a beautiful, fresh, effortless, and natural way. To me, that is the truest sense of the word makeover and putting your best face forward.
